Which Mattress is Best for a Recliner Bed?

Which Mattress is the Best for a Recliner Bed?

Deciding on the best mattress for your adjustable bed is just as important as choosing the bed itself. Choosing the right mattress will help you receive proper support and achieve optimum comfort levels.

Level of firmness, how much support you need, and how thick you want it to be should be considered. With this in mind, let’s dig into what the best mattress is for your bed.

The Best Mattress Types for Adjustable Beds

At Grosvenor Mobility, we offer three mattress options:

  • Luxury Memory Reflex
  • Luxury Reflex
  • Luxury Pocket Sprung

We’ll get into the finer details of these mattresses soon. But first, consider your needs. What’s your desired firmness level? Do you have any specific issues, such as back pain? What sleeping position do you prefer?

These variables and more will help you decide which mattress type you need. For many of our customers, who may have mobility issues, an orthopaedic mattress type is best-suited. This type of mattress provides the necessary support for people with impaired mobility.

What is an Orthopaedic Mattress?

Orthopaedic mattresses provide a range of benefits. Our Reflex and Pocket Sprung mattress options fall under the orthopaedic category.

Orthopaedic mattresses tend to be firmer than the average mattress, promoting proper spinal alignment and posture. This firmness and support relieves back pain or pain in pressure points that are in contact with the bed.

This type of mattress is suited to the elderly or those who suffer from chronic pain in their back or joints such as arthritis sufferers. Orthopaedic mattresses are also suitable for people who just want a firmer place to sleep, avoiding sinking into the mattress which can lead to back and posture problems. They are suited to people who sleep on their backs, as side sleepers tend to prefer a softer mattress that cushions their sides.

What is a Reflex Mattress?

Reflex mattresses are made of quality, laser-cut reflex foam. This high-density foam adapts to your body shape, but still bounces back, providing proper support for spinal alignment while still being extremely comfortable. The foam also evenly distributes weight, reducing the pressure placed on joints and areas that tend to sink into the bed on a regular mattress.

Due to the support, they are best suited to people who prefer to sleep on their back or front.

What is a Memory Foam Mattress?

A softer mattress type, the memory foam mattress is made from foam designed to contour to your body. A memory foam mattress will be better suited to someone who wants a more cushy feeling when they get into bed, not designed as firm as reflex or pocket sprung mattresses. These mattresses are also quieter than spring-based designs, ideal if you’re a restless sleeper.

At Grosvenor Mobility, our memory foam mattresses contain both memory foam and reflex foam, so you can enjoy the softer nature of a memory foam mattress, along with the support provided by a firmer kind of foam. Due to the support and the weightless feeling provided, these mattresses are great for reducing back pain. They’re also better suited to side sleepers than our firmer options, as the mattress will conform to your body’s curves while providing pressure relief on your shoulders and hips.

What is a Pocket Sprung Mattress?

Pocket sprung mattresses feature a series of individual springs that sit in their own fabric pockets. This design allows the springs to act independently, allowing each spring to react to the pressure specifically applied to it, helping to provide great support.

These mattresses are great for great for people who don’t want to sink into their mattress, something which you might feel with a memory foam mattress. Continuing the pocket sprung vs memory foam comparisons, pocket sprung mattresses are also better for circulation- letting you have a cooler sleeping experience. However, pocket sprung mattresses can make noise and aren’t always as comfortable as a softer mattresses.

What Mattress is Best for Back Pain?

All three of our mattress types provide the support necessary to combat back pain. Their supportive nature helps to relieve pressure placed on your spine, while also promoting better spinal alignment. Having said this, our foam options (memory foam and reflex) can be considered as the better solutions to back pain. These mattresses provide ample support while contouring to your body’s shape, minimising pressure even further.

Will I Need a Replacement Mattress for an Electric Bed?

On average, our mattresses should perform to the expected standard for 7-10 years. You can sleep peacefully for a good amount of time before considering a replacement.

If you’re worried about having to replace your mattress, take a few simple actions to help it last longer. Using a mattress protector, regularly rotating and flipping the mattress, avoiding putting vast amounts of sudden pressure on it, ensuring your mattress lines up with your bedframe (we’ll ensure it does) and checking for any signs of sagging will help to keep your mattress performing well for as long as possible!
